Central Bedfordshire - the world's best?

Children and young people in Bedfordshire - deserve a "world-class" workforce of teachers, social workers and youth support staff.

That's the aim of Central Bedfordshire Council - as they prepare to implement the Government's Young People's plan.

All councils have to come up with their own ways of delivering a consistant standard in the level of teaching, youth clubs, support etc.

In Central Bedfordshire, the local authority believes as it's a new Council, "Every Child Matters" is not only achievable, but they can do it by excelling at the services it delivers.

The Authority however has so far not revealed the timetable for delivering better services by raising it's existing staff capabilties to "world-class".

Councillor Anita Lewis, Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, also refused to publicise just HOW the council will achieve this.

However, Cllr Lewis has told Heart they are open to new ideas of working, to modernise it's workforce and to develop the skills, knowledge and development of its' staff.

The Council itself claims it has already

* Established a shared practices across all its' departments involving children and young people.

* Developed an integrated way of working and staff development programme

* More use of training hubs

* Continued training and development of best practice through until at least 2013.
