"Stand Down Margaret"

Margaret Moran makes no comment on growing calls.

Luton South MP Margaret Moran has declined to comment on growing calls for her to step down as an MP.

She has been signed off sick since her part in the MP's expenses scandal was revealed by the Daily Telegraph - she'd claimed £22,500 for dry rot treatment at a home in Southampton, some 100 miles from Luton. She agreed to pay back the money and has said she won't stand in the next General Election.

However this doesn't seem to be enough for the candidates putting themselves forward in the Luton South seat - they are now unanimously calling for her to go before the election. If she remains as an MP until the election then Ms Moran will receive a number of benefits including a relocation payout and pension.

This morning her office confirmed to Heart that she has again been signed off sick but was unable to say when that sick note expired. Ms Moran is now facing a campaign by a local newspaper to oust her.
